Women in Business – Grow, Protect and Scale: Empowering Women SMEs for a Digital Future

Women entrepreneurs continue to play an important role in Malaysia’s SME landscape, building businesses across industries while navigating the many responsibilities that come with entrepreneurship. Creating opportunities for women to connect, learn and share experiences can help strengthen this growing community.

Recognising the value of these connections, Paydibs and Great Eastern came together on 29 July to host the inaugural Women in Business SME Workshop, bringing women entrepreneurs together for an afternoon of learning, meaningful conversations and shared experiences.

The workshop welcomed women business owners from F&B, retail, services and more, creating a dedicated space to exchange insights, challenges and perspectives. Themed “Grow, Protect & Scale: Empowering Women SMEs for a Digital Future,” the session highlighted an important reality of entrepreneurship: sustainable growth goes beyond increasing sales. As businesses evolve, having the right foundations to protect the business, manage risks and scale effectively becomes equally important.

For many SME owners, the early stages of entrepreneurship are focused on building the business, serving customers and driving sales. As the business grows, so do operational demands and potential risks. Having the right digital tools, streamlined processes, payment solutions and protection in place can help SMEs operate more efficiently, manage risks and build a stronger foundation for sustainable, long-term growth.

The workshop featured four women leaders from different industries, each bringing a unique perspective to the conversation: Lucy Loo, Head of Marketing & Digital Transformation Division at Great Eastern General Insurance; Chai Lee Fong, Founder & CEO of Famsy Mall; Jade Lee, Founder & CEO of Artisans Haven; and Arieni Adriena, Founder & CEO of Gula Cakery Group.

Drawing from their own entrepreneurial journeys, the speakers shared practical insights on leadership, resilience, continuous learning and adapting to change. The discussion also highlighted the importance of embracing technology as businesses scale, while putting the right protection in place to safeguard their people, assets and hard-earned progress.

The collaboration between Paydibs and Great Eastern reflects a shared commitment to supporting SMEs beyond individual business functions. By bringing together expertise in digital payments and business protection, the partnership aims to equip entrepreneurs with practical knowledge and solutions to navigate an increasingly digital and competitive business environment.

The inaugural workshop marks the beginning of more opportunities for women entrepreneurs to connect, strengthen their capabilities and embrace digital transformation — helping build businesses that are not only ready to grow, but also prepared to thrive for the long term.
